Improvements - Open House Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Thank you to everyone who attended our Open House on Wednesday, November 28, 2007. We discussed the many positive aspects of the referendum and were able to show the benefits to Glenbrook South High School so far.
First and foremost, the many sections that were previously cut within our schedule have been reinstated. This has resulted in a schedule that is effectively meeting the diverse scheduling requests of our students. In addition, eight science labs have been modernized, our orchestra room has been updated, the old single file serving lines in our cafeteria have been replaced by a spacious food court, and a student activities center has replaced our old faculty lounge. The value of this important work is appreciated by all within the GBS family. Please check the link below for more details.

Interact sponsored the annual Battle of the Bands last Friday night with all proceeds used to purchase school supplies for Nepal. Over 250 students were in attendance with over $1500 raised! Fifteen bands competed in the event which took place after the GBS vs. Deerfield basketball game. "Mysterio" was the winning band and Interact sponsor, Bill Lyon, was heard to comment, "It was the hard work of the Interact board which helped to make this event so successful!"
Safe Passage - Illinois Graduated License Update
Clarification about the new Illinois Driver's License law's impact on permits and licenses issued before the January 2008 include the following:
Permit
The only grandfather provisions for the new licensing program are for permits. Anyone whose permit is dated/obtained before January 2008 will follow the old permit's guidelines - the permit holder will still be able to obtain a license after three months.
License
For driver's license, if you are 16 or 17, you are bound by the new laws regardless of whether the license was obtained before January of 2008. This means a year from date of issue (or 18 if it comes first). Of chief concern are:
- Night driving Sun-Thurs - 10pm to 6:00 am Fri.-Sat - 11:00pm - 6:00am
- One passenger under age 20 unless immediate family member - extends six months with
a moving violation
- No cell phone until age 19
