Flags at Half-Staff Honor Illinois Soldiers at Governor's Request

To honor Illinois' fallen soldiers, Specialist Norman L. Cain, III (Oregon, IL), Specialist Robert M. Weinger (Round Lake Beach, IL) and Sergeant Christopher P. Abeyta (Midlothian, IL), Governor Quinn has requested that all United States and Illinois flags be at half-staff from sunrise, Wednesday, March 25, 2009 through sunset, Saturday, March 28, 2009.

The three soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Woodstock, IL. The young men were all part of the Illinois National Guard's large scale involvement in eastern Afghanistan.

Our hearts go out to their families and friends.

GBS Debate - Top Ranked Public School in the Country!

The National Debate Coaches Association has announced the final regular season national rankings for high school policy debate teams. The Glenbrook South team of junior Richard Day and junior Will Thibeau finished the regular invitational season third in the country. The Glenbrook South team of senior Colin Quinn and senior Alec Zimmer finished the regular season ranked thirteenth in the country.

Glenbrook South is the top ranked public school in the country and the only school to have two teams ranked in the top fifteen. Day/Thibeau are also the only team of two juniors ranked in the top thirty.

Glenbrook South will now start their postseason in their state championship and national championship competitions in the upcoming months. Best of luck to these talented Titans!

Interact Blood Drive an Outstanding Success!

The annual Interact Blood Drive with Life Source Blood Center drew in over 150 donors on Thursday, March 12th. 15 participants donated double red cells, and 163 units were collected overall (which is a 20% increase over last year). Thank you to everyone who participated! You have saved countless lives.

Congratulations to GBS Speech and Debate

This past weekend, the Speech and Debate teams attended the National Forensic League National Championships. The following students qualified for the NFL National Championships in Birmingham, AL in June, 2009:

Congratulations to Business Professionals of America!

The GBS BPA team spent last weekend at State. The conference was run by VP of State Projects, Roya Naderi, and VP of the State Newsletter, Joe Lim. GBS helped run the successful State Project which raised over $3300 for the Illinois Special Olympics.

Glenbrook South High School Boy's Basketball Team Wins Regional Title!

Congratulations to Mr. Nemecek and our basketball team for their 57 - 52 victory over Maine East H.S. in the Regional Championship on Friday, March 6, 2009.

GBS will face Notre Dame H.S. in the first round of play on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at Niles North H.S. Tickets ($5 each) will be available through the SAO beginning Monday, March 9, 2009 after school. Plan on coming to the game to support our Titans!

Good luck to GBS as they continue in the state playoffs.

GBS Boy's Swimming Team Earns 3rd in IHSA State Meet!

Congratulations to the 2009 Boy's swimming team for their third place finish this past weekend! Results included:

State Champions

  • Dominik Cubelic, Ryan Bach, Ben Hengels and Chris DeLetto - 200-Yard Freestyle Relay State Champions. After setting the national record on Friday night, they surpassed their own mark on Saturday and lowered their record setting time to 1:22.15 from 1:22.63. The previous national record was 1:22.80.   • Dominik Cubelic - 50-Yard Freestyle State Champion.

Place Winners

  • Dominik Cubelic, Ryan Bach, Chris DeLetto, Ben Hengels - 2nd in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.
  • Dominik Cubelic - 2nd in 100-Yard Freestyle.
  • Chris DeLetto - 4th in 50-Yard Freestyle.
  • Ben Hengels - 5th in 500-Yard Freestyle & 7th in 200-Yard Individual Medley.
